Boeing has been, and still is traversing through difficult times… but the Boeing team is now looking forward to the release of the 777x widebody aircraft into the market. Why is the 777x so attractive to customers and who is placing the big orders?

Cost Savings

Boeing markets the 777x as the world’s next biggest and most efficient twin-engine jet on market. 10% more fuel-efficient and 10% reduced operational costs compared to the competition (Airbus a350) is what Boeing claims.

Pricing

The list price of the 777x goes for $410.2 - $442.2 million dollars. It is important to note that airlines will typically get a discount when buying aircraft, especially if it consists of a large contract with multiple airframes. Other airlines may opt to lease aircraft from aircraft leasing giants such as AerCap, Dubai Aerospace, and Chapman Freeborn.

Orders

So who are the customers already lining up for Boeings newest widebodies?

  • Emirates (115)

  • Qatar Airways (60)

  • Singapore Airlines (31)

  • Etihad Airways (25)

  • Cathy Pacific Airways (21)

  • ANA Holdings Inc. (20)

  • Lufthansa (20)

  • British Airways (18)

  • Unidentified Customer(s) (10)

Emirates has placed an order almost twice as large as the second-largest order. Emirates currently operates 144, 777 aircraft in its fleet, ten of those are freighters.

Airbus Concerns Allow Room for More Orders

Boeing may expect a further order of the 777x by Qatar Airways following the comments made by Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker. He confirmed that Qatar Airways had grounded 20 of its 53, a350 jets (the direct competition of the 777x) and that further deliveries had come to a halt.

It is without a doubt that the delayed 777x will have a major role in the future of the aviation industry as deliveries start rolling out and more orders are placed.
